DAVIS RESIDENCE

The heavily wooded property was part of a lumberman’s family legacy to their granddaughter who wanted to build her family home on the site. An extensive amount of the lumber used in the house was cut and milled on the site.

The overall design theme was for ‘a simple expression of wood’ structure. The ‘expression’ of wood starts with the Douglas fir posts, beams, purlins and roof deck which are exposed throughout the structure and conclude with the vertical redwood tongue and groove siding which encloses the framing very simply without added trim. The different woods were unified by a natural finish. First and foremost it is a comfortable home designed to meet the needs of an active family of five.
