The client wanted to replace the existing 1930’s summer cabin with a vacation home that would incorporate various fun elements for their grandchildren. The building site was a steeping lot with numerous fir, bay and oak trees. The narrow rectangular shaped lot rises 50 feet from the street to the rear property line.
The new cottage includes 3 bedrooms and 3 baths built on 2 levels. Because of the steep slope of the property, the entrance is on the lower level with its shingle-sided battered walls, whimsical vault roof and over sized tapered columns.
The main level includes an open living, dining and kitchen plan. The grandchildren’s dollhouse under the stairs is featured in Taunton Home’s New Kidspace Idea Book. There are hopscotch tiles on the private dining deck plus a hanging swing on the covered porch which completes the picture of an inviting getaway home for extended family.
