The original house on this challenging site was destroyed in the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989. Only the septic system had been replaced when the new owners purchased the building site.
The design for the retirement home needed to fit into the wedge shaped lot which was surrounded by roadway on 3 sides with strict clearance around the existing septic system. The zoning requirements limited the house to a maximum height of 28 feet. In an attempt to minimize steps within the house, the entry, living, dining, kitchen, laundry and the master bedroom suite were all situated on the main level. A private hot tub patio connects to the Master suite. A dumbwaiter located in the garage on the street level, makes loading and unloading the car easier on the residents.
